Retailers in the UK planning to use container shipping to ensure that their customers get their Christmas purchases on time are apparently not adequately prepared for the challenges that the festive period brings with it.
According to new research from Temando, 79 per cent of small to medium-sized enterprises are not prepared with regards to documentation, transfer to carriers, labelling and pick and pack, while 76 per cent are not prepared for any potential shipping delays.
Furthermore, it was found that 77 per cent are not well prepared enough to offer their customers multiple shipping options, such as same-day delivery or express.
“Shipping and fulfilment are complex enough without the huge increase in shipments over the Christmas period. When carrier networks reach their peak, one week out from Christmas, retailers need to have automated their shipping and fulfilment processes to provide better experiences for their loyal customers. No one needs the added anxiety of waiting for their gifts to arrive on time before Christmas,” chief executive officer of Temando Carl Hartmann said.
